JOB SUMMARY
The Nurse Practitioner for the Rheumatology department is a licensed, certified, non-physician healthcare provider who actively renders direct patient care and possesses delegated prescriptive authority, is credentialed and privileged, and whose service is billed as an independent billing provider, as recognized by Medicare and Medicaid within the healthcare systems, and in accordance with the appropriate board. The Advanced Practice Provider provides medical care based upon the scope of practice as delineated by the supervising physician. These providers work in a specialty clinic, and may specialize in Palliative Care, Pulmonary, Infectious Disease, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Cardiology, Dermatology, Urology, Nephrology, Neurology, Hematology, Oncology, Allergy and Immunology, Rheumatology or other medical specialty.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE
- The Specialty Nurse Practitioner evaluates, plans and provides care for patients in consultation with and under direct supervision of attending Physician. Performs clinical procedures under direction of attending Physician and according to approved protocols. Initiates and changes order for tests and patient care based on condition of patient and approval of Physician. Develops and maintains active practice in facilities.
- The Specialty NP role typically provides care in an inpatient acute care setting and anyone in this role must be Board Certified as a Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP-BC) or (ACNPC-AG).
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification is preferred
- Compile medical history information and other relevant data from patient and family while updating medical record.
- Evaluate patient condition and medical needs while developing plan of care to be approved by attending physician.
- Perform clinical procedures under direction of attending physician and according to approved protocols.
- Perform advanced clinical procedures in emergency situations.
- Initiate orders for routine laboratory, radiologic and diagnostic examinations or tests based on attending physician's verbal orders and written protocol.
- Initiate or change patient care orders under circumstance of change in condition under Physician orders.
- Assist Physician on hospital rounds and prepare progress entries for patient medical record.
- Participate in continuing medical education programs and provide educational programs for nursing staff and other personnel.

QUALIFICATIONS
- EDUCATION - Masters'
- EXPERIENCE - Minimum 1 year experience required
CERTIFICATION/LICENSE/REGISTRATION -
- Nurse Practitioner (NP)
- NON RQI AHA BLS (BLSNRQI): BLS or BLS within 30 days of hire or transfer.
- Acute Care Nrs Pract Cert (ACNP-BC), Acute Care NP-A Gerontology (ACNPC-AG): Must have one of the following acute care certifications:
- ACNP-BC - Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Cert or
- ACNPC-AG - Acute Care Gerontology Cert.
