JOB SUMMARY

The Baylor Scott & White Medical Psychology Consultants are recruiting a one-year, full-time Postdoctoral Fellow for our growing, interdisciplinary service. The fellowship will be focused on health psychology broadly, with particular emphasis in solid organ transplant (e.g., heart, lung, kidney, liver). The fellow will receive advanced, focused, and in-depth training opportunities encompassing diagnostic evaluations, pre-surgical assessments, research, and evidenced-based clinical interventions. Based in a large, urban hospital in Dallas, TX, our providers work as part of an interdisciplinary clinical team with exposure to a diverse patient population.

The fellow will deliver hospital-based clinical services in response to consults from medical teams including transplant, trauma and critical care, palliative care, internal medicine, oncology, and others. Additionally, the fellow will conduct pre-transplant psychological evaluations for organ recipients and donors as well as provide psychotherapy in our outpatient clinic. Patients present with a variety of medical and psychiatric diagnoses, most prominently adjustment to illness or injury, difficulty with treatment adherence, coping with prolonged hospitalization, and exacerbation of premorbid psychiatric disorders. Patients may include mature adolescents, adults, elderly patients, and families of patients. The fellow also has the opportunity to engage in program development, supervision, and/or scholarly activity during the training year.

The program is based upon a practitioner-scholar model, balancing hands-on experience with knowledge of relevant psychological science. The goal is to demonstrate competency in a wide range of skills across a variety of health psychology settings, with specific emphasis in solid organ transplant. At the completion of this fellowship position, the fellow is expected to demonstrate advanced skills as a psychologist within a medical system, working collaboratively as part of an interdisciplinary healthcare team.

Candidates for this position should be obtaining a doctorate in Clinical, Counseling, or Health Psychology from an APA-accredited program. Experience in medical, health, or rehabilitation psychology is preferred. The doctoral degree, including completion of coursework, internship, and dissertation defense, must be conferred prior to start date.
