New advanced Transplant Nephrology fellowship opportunity available at Northwell Health
Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell’s Division of Kidney Diseases and Hypertension in Long Island, NY is now interviewing for a 2024 position in our newly created AST-certified transplant nephrology fellowship. This one-year advanced fellowship seeks to develop the next generation of transplant nephrologists.
Training in transplant nephrology is provided primarily at the Northwell Health Transplant Institute. The fellow will develop expertise in managing kidney transplant patients in North Shore University Hospital located in Manhasset, NY, as well as in the outpatient setting, including a rotation at an affiliated lab for intensive training in immunogenetics. The fellow will be involved in transplant candidate selection, donor candidate selection, and perioperative and longitudinal post-transplant management. In addition, the Northwell Health Transplant Institute has robust heart, lung, and liver transplant programs. Fellows will be involved in selecting candidates for multiorgan transplantation and management of these complex recipients. Training also involves transplant nephropathology and research opportunities. By the end of training, the fellow will meet criteria for UNOS certification as a transplant nephrologist and as a medical director of a kidney transplant program.
Established in 2008, the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell has received accolades as a leading, innovative training center. Northwell Health is one of the largest health systems in the country, comprising 22 hospitals, over 80,000 employees and 3,800 physicians, and recognized for its visionary and caring approach to healthcare. A short walk from North Shore University Hospital is the Feinstein Institute for Medical Research, one of the nation’s top biomedical research facilities. The scope, size and diversity of the health system help to create a rich set of opportunities.
Candidates for the Transplant Nephrology Fellowship should have completed U.S.-based internal medicine residency training and general nephrology fellowship and demonstrate the highest level of performance and scientific potential. Candidates will be carefully evaluated based on academic accomplishments, clinical training, enthusiasm, and dedication to transplant nephrology. Northwell Health is supportive of Visa candidates.
